Unmuzzled is an Intelwatch initiative, in partnership with FrayMedia, designed to protect journalists and preserve the public’s right to know. By combining secure communication channels, editorial independence, and international collaboration, Unmuzzled enables reporters to share investigations safely, even under censorship or threat. The platform draws inspiration from global models of collaborative journalism that have proven how solidarity can defeat repression, with a focus on the realities faced by journalists across Africa and other high-risk regions where reporting the truth can carry real danger. Unmuzzled operates as a free and independent public-interest initiative, ensuring that access to support and publication never depends on financial means. There is no cost for contributors, and Intelwatch does not buy or sell stories – all submissions are received and reviewed on a not-for-profit basis. Through this approach, Unmuzzled expands the reach and impact of public-interest journalism, shares publication risk through collaborative partnerships, strengthens regional networks for press freedom, amplifies stories and builds professional resilience among local reporters.

Each story published through Unmuzzled represents a journalist or source who refused to be silenced – and a network that stood behind them. Stories are published only after verification and legal clearance, assured by FrayMedia, and they remain accessible to global audiences through Intelwatch and partner newsrooms. Contributors remain fully credited for their work, or may remain anonymous and no materials are used altered without the author’s consent. The project upholds editorial independence and maintains strict confidentiality and security protocols.
